Briare to Nevers

Julie and Lori at the Pont Canal

Today was the longest day of the tour.  Not only that, but it included a 500' climb, averaging 9% grade and topping out at 17% (that is steep carrying 25 pounds of luggage).  There was a little walking by all of us except the e-bike (and even that was difficult).

We started off the day along the canal of the Loire and climbed up to the hilltop village of Sancerre (hence the big climb).

Tonight we are staying at a bike themed coffee shop, pub,  restaurant, bike shop and inn, owned by a charming English couple in Nevers.  It is very comfortable and nice.  After nearly two weeks, it was nice to get the lodging orientation in English.

We are very sad that Patty is leaving the group (as planned) tomorrow morning.  She is excited to visit her daughter in Paris and son, daughter in law and granchild in the Seattle area in the upcoming weekend and week.  We will miss her for her sense of humor, great photos and ability to pull all of us along the road at 16 mph.  Safe travels Patty, it won't be the same without you.

Gallipoli
