Bourbon-Lancy to Montceau-les-mines

Today was such an easy day, I don't even know if I can overeat and overdrink tonight to cover the day's caloric output.  It was 52 miles, but we had a nice tailwind, great roads and trails and very little elevation change.  To top it off, we had morning cloud cover and partly sunny, dry afternoon weather to make it the perfect cycling day.  Our adventure today was alongside canals (often canopied by tree's).  As you can imagine, canals and locks means very little elevation change.  Often we were on the old canal towpath (the ones oxen pulled barges from) or very low traffic roads.

We rolled into Montceau about 3:00 PM.  Iti is a quaint town of about 20,000 that you would never chose to visit, but very charming when you do.  It is a former coal mining town, now dominated by a nuclear power plant cooling tower.  This was our second day of cycling in Bordeaux (one of 13 administrative regions) and we found it very pleasant and relaxing.

Our family photo from last night, including Michael, Isabella (the innkeepers)  and Savanna (the French speaking, fromage eating Chihuahua

Julie and her new friend

Not sure why, but Julie liked this sign

On the road this morning

Rob navigating the road barriers.  Not a lot of room there.  Julie named the barriers the "guillotine".

Despite miles of canals, we don't see many boats.

Another canal on a bridge, this time in Digoin.

Today' start and end points.  Considering that we started on the Atlantic, we are making some progress

Gallipoli

Today was a bonus day.  We decided to do a day trip to the Gallipoli Peninsula.  That is where an important WWI battle was fought in 1915.  ...
